There has been a big employment jump in Cape Coral in June.

Cape Coral-Fort Myers was among the top metro areas in the country for employment gains in the year to June 2019.

It gained 3.8%, the third best over-the-year percentage gains in employment in the country. That is according to US Bureau of Labor data.

Nationally, jobless rates were lower in June than a year earlier in 294 of the 389 metropolitan areas, higher in 67, and unchanged in 28.

The national unemployment rate in June was 3.8% not seasonally adjusted, down from 4.2% a year earlier.

The metro’s labor force was 349,324 and 12,112 were listed as unemployed. That means the unemployment rate in June 2019 for Cape Coral-Fort Myers was 3.5%. A year earlier, it was 3.7%.

Most of the figures are preliminary which means they may be revised later.

Cape Coral has been named a modern American boomtown due to its five-year rise in population.
