Cape Coral is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020 with a host of events.
Throughout the year, the Cape Coral Historical Society and Museum and the City of Cape Coral are hosting various events to mark the achievement.
The museum says, “Please join the Cape Coral Historical Society and Museum throughout 2020 as we celebrate 50 years since the incorporation of the City of Cape Coral with events and programming for children and adults alike.”
The Golden Anniversary begins with the Jubilee Celebration on January 24, 2020 at the Cape Coral Yacht Club.
The evening of appreciation” chaired by Gloria Tate and ToniRae Hurley, takes place from 6-10pm. It will honor the city’s past leaders, residents and staff who have helped grow the community.
The evening will feature a historical display of Cape Coral and a program from Waltzing Water – Liquid Fireworks. It will also include a short film showcasing the history of the city, art display, speakers and more.
Organizers are planning an “I remember when” panel made up of early residents. There will also be a proclamation from Mayor Joe Coviello.
Selected speakers include Linda Sterling, who is the daughter of community developer Leonard Rosen and his granddaughter, Julia Swift.
The following day, January 25, 2020, the Cape Coral Historical Society and Museum will host Jammin’ in Cultural Park, its annual music festival.
The year will be capped off with a special 50th Anniversary fireworks presentation at Coconut Fest in November 2020.
