SW Florida Airport has had its best year ever

SW Florida Airport has had its best year ever.

Year-end passenger traffic at South West Florida International was up 6% compared to 2017.

The international airport based at Fort Myers also had record numbers for December 2018, with 958,717 passengers. This is up 9.8% year-over-year.

Jeff Mulder, executive director of the Lee County Port Authority, tells why SW Florida Airport has had its best year ever. “December 2018 was the best December in the 36-year history of the airport and our performance for the year was a historic best with 9,373,178 passengers.

“We appreciate the support of our airline partners in adding new markets and increasing flight schedules to meet the demand for travel to Southwest Florida.”

The traffic leader in December was Delta Air Lines with 165,344 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers.

Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (149,892), Spirit (121,638), Frontier (118,516) and also American (114,081).

Page Field saw 8,397 operations, a 15.2% increase from December 2017. In addition, nearly 3.2 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in December 2018.

Southwest Florida International Airport is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
