The top US pizza restaurant is in Fort Myers.
Fine Folk Pizza won the Caputo Cup pizza contest in Atlantic City.
The award-winning restaurant at 11300 Lindbergh Blvd, which has just celebrated its third birthday, serves up New York-Style thin crust pizzas.
Around 200 pizzeria operators battled it out before a panel of judges in Traditional, Non-Traditional, Neapolitan/STG and Roman Pizza categories.
Mike DeNunzio and general manager Chris Batties represented Fine Folk Pizza. They won the non-traditional category.
Their winning pizza, The Secret Garden, features a dough infused with butterfly pea flowers, a tropical oregano, garlic base, aged cheddar and mozzarella topped with wine-glazed mushrooms butter-fried capers. It also includes edible marigolds and pansies and finished with cracked black pepper and extra virgin olive oil.
The restaurant won a $2,000 cash prize as well as a trophy.
The Secret Garden pizza was added to the menu after the contest. It is available while stocks last.
Fine Folk Pizza, which makes donations to local charities, says, “Pizza is our passion but what makes us most happy is being part of our local community.”
